Chawari Bazar has some best-kept food secrets, Fruit sandwich from Jain coffee house is one. Surprisingly the shop has been there since 1948 and so well hidden beside a granary that very few people know about it.Jain Coffee House is run by two brothers —Pavan and Anil Jain. It’s a small and low – key shop without any name board in grain market courtyard. You can pick your version of fruit sandwich from pineapple, chiku, banana, black and green grapes, apples and mangoes, depending on the season. They also serve the onion-tomato version of the sandwich. You can gulp down these with shake and tea.
My obvious choice was a fruit sandwich , and I was eagerly watching like a 6 years old. Fruit Sandwich is a burst of flavors . Firstly a thin layer of white butter is equally spread on white bread, orange marmalade , more than 1 big apple sliced , half of pineapple , then another layer of paneer , slices of butter , a handful of sliced grapes, a sprinkling of pomegranate seeds and some masala. (Sound’s gross? But it isn’t. They are sweet soft and a bit tangy. ) . Probably this is the only shop that serves Fruit Sandwich with utter quality.
How to get there ?
The best way to reach is by metro. Nearest Metro station is Chawari Bazar . From Chawri Bazar Metro walk along Chawri Bazar until almost at the left turn into Nai Sarak. On your left is a small gully, Raghu Ganj , Near PNB ATM– walk in and turn left, Jain Coffee House is the grain store at the far left.
