It’s long weekend and I am set to hit the road. This time the destination is Narendra Bhawan, Bikaner. Not a popular place of Rajasthan Right? I had a similar feeling when I visited Bikaner and how it is usually never considered a city to explore when compared to Jodhpur, Jaipur, Udaipur or Jaisalmer. But as they say, Take every chance you get in life because some things happen only once. With no amount of research or hope, boarded the train from New Delhi Railway Station to Bikaner.
Little as I know, Army of People with wide Smile from Narendra Bhawan waited for us at Station. As we pulled into the driveway of Majestic stunning architecture like a Rajasthani Haveli. But how magnificent outdoor façade may be, it tells little about the place. Welcome to Narendra Bhawan-the grand residence of last resigning of Bikaner, HH Narendra Singh ji ( 1948-2003) . Narendra Bhawan retells the story of royalty and luxury and pays homage to the life of Maharaja Narendra Singhji.Every corner of the Bhawan has a story to tell and gives an idea of the king life style. You will see a lot of Luxe velvets, English prints, glittering mirrors and mosaic featuring Narendra Singh Ji Inclination towards a western life style.
Every nook & corner of Narendra Bhawan as a history and every meal you eat here has a history too. Still mesmerized by the beauty and elements kept, this is not exactly a hotel or has a former lobby, the place is kept like king’s home and to make feel guest a part of king’s life. There are a lot of pieces and small monuments you see from different part of county and beauty is on every visit you will some new additions. Going up to my room there is a vast and traditional verandah and beautifully modernized hallways.
Food At Narendra Bhawan
Well, What’s winning here is food and how each meal is inspired and has a take attached to it. The highlight of my entire trip was the food that I ate here. In fact, I didn’t just eat the food, I devoured it. True to the typical Rajasthani tradition, almost all the time I spent at the hotel was primarily used for eating food or thinking about it. Each meal has a story that made it all the way more interesting. Our first lunch was inspired by the English era and English influence on the king at Pearls and Chiffon restaurant.
Below is the picture of a beautiful dinner set up done by the Narendra Bhawan, lake side set up while sun sets and everything is in shade of orange and blue. Just sit by the lake, enjoy sun set and Enjoy Gin & Tonic ( Did I tell you these guys do best Gin & Tonic )
Narendra Bhawan took us to a walk to Rampuriya Haveli, Not just one but this is a hub which has hundreds of beautifully decorated Havelis which has the finest piece of architecture. Merchant used to live here and how wealthy he or she is a market but the carvings on the wall. After a beautiful walk, we were back to the hotel to indulge in Merchant meal, inspired by their daily meal. A simple yet delicious meal.
The most mesmerizing trip of Bikaner came to an end and all I think about is getting back there.
