All of us love to travel, but very few of us will pen down Chandigarh in our list and I insist you, go and visit once. City of the square map is different from others, little safer, little greener and cleaner. The city will not insist you to party or relax but teaches the right way to live. Here are my few takes to CONVINCE you to visit Chandigarh right now.
1. Count to a road trip with these amazing dhabba
Reaching Chandigarh is pretty easy, can go by air, bus or train. But if you are looking for some amusement take a road trip from Delhi via grand truck road and pull over these “not to be missed” dhabba. Obviously, I don’t need to brag about the importance of Dhabas in India. They not only feed ravenous stomach but reflecting the authentic taste of any region.Murthal, 42 km from Delhi, 200 km from Chandigarh has turned into a destination for many travellers.A fleet of some delicious serving dhabba (not so looking dhabba) . My personal favorite among them is Pehlwan da Dhabba, Gulshan ka Dhabba and Haveli. ( Not a fan of Amrik Sukhdev).
On grand trunk road ( NH1) we have Karnal , famous for haveli ( Haveli has lost its charm now) and Jhilmil dhabba. Pull over to these dhabba while en route to Chandigarh.
2. Get yourself portrait at Sukhna lake and watch sunset
Essentially an artificial lake in Chandigarh drawing the attention of many tourists because of numerous fun activities taking place all day long. There is a fleet of colourful boat to take you near to the horizon as sun sets and shades of sky changes.(Beautiful, isn’t it ?). You can also sit dreamy at the Buddha Garden in sukhna Lake while kids can enjoy some rides. There is also a food court area with filling snack and roadside ice cream cart. End your day getting yourself portrait aside this beautiful lake.
3. Visit heart & Pride of Chandigarh Satara wali Market ( Sector 17 Market)
There is no fancy mall or anything but if you haven’t been to sector 17 markets then you have not visited Chandigarh. Chandigarh people take a lot of pride in sector 17 markets and I don’t find any reason of not too. It is a center of shopping , entertainment, and hogging. You can buy a pretty phulkari dupatta and a Punjabi jutti .
4. Visit best out of best garden; Rock garden
Visit Rock garden and you won’t stop admiring genius work, Nek Chand. The entire garden is built from industrial and domestic waste. Inside the garden, you will find some very interesting sculptures made from broken glass bangles, recycled ceramic, rags, etc.
5. Enjoy the musical show as the sun sets

Every evening sector 17 market get musical & lit up with fountain . It gives fantastic experience to enjoy 30 minutes full of music, lights and laser show.
6. Drive you way to gehri route sector 8 sector 9 & sector 10
If you are in Chandigarh and you don’t drive through the city ,( agar gehri nahi mari) you miss the local vibes. Sector 8, sector 9 and sector 10 around sukhna lake are well planned , neat clean and have beautiful bungalows .
7. Eat like locals
Eat like a Punjabi and live like one. Chandigarh doesn’t have much street food options but city will definitely spoil you for some quality meal. Pal Dhaba is a famous eatery among local for butter chicken. If you are one of those souls who can’t stay away from chaat from long , try shiv misthaan bhandar for amazing aloo kachori & gol gappe. Sector 29 is another place where you get amazing gol gappe. Nik’s bakery is another famous cafe around for quick bites and cakes. Soft Corner in sector 17 is a cute little place serving quirky softy.
8. Experience Chandigarh’s nightlife and be spoilt for choice
In the past few years , nightlife in Chandigarh has grown in leaps and bound – although the number of bars and clubs are somewhat limited as compared to the larger cities, they make up in quality for what they lack in quantity. If you are in Chandigarh you might want to loose your hair down , enjoy few drinks with some excellent DJ’s spinning the latest beats. Whether you’re in the mood for a casual evening of conversation over drinks, a crazy night of dancing or even something in between, we tell you just where you should head to get your fix.
